The Role of a Law Enforcement Officer
State statute authorizes an officer to use every reasonable means to protect the alleged victim and victim's children and to prevent further violence.

This may include arranging transportation of the victim and/or minor children to any safe place. The officer may act over other parent's objection and/or court order if the officer can articulate immediate safety concerns.

The Duties of a Law Enforcement Officer
An arrest shall be made only after probable cause is determined. Arrest means custodial arrest and posting of a bond. Release is conditional on the defendant acknowledging a protection order is a condition of the bond.
